I’m going to recap my weekend of concerts.
So, I saw a shitload of bands this weekend and needless to say, they were amazing. So here’s the breakdown of all the bands, what I thought of them, the setlist etc etc and where I was.
Friday - Death cab for cutie - Jesus Christ. They played almost every song I wanted them to play. I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t get lack of color or brothers on a hotel bed, but hearing an 8 minute long version of we looked like giants made up for it. They played nearly half the Transatlanticism record including New Year, Title & Registration. There was stuff from Plans (Oh gosh, hearing What Sarah Said… Amazing) and Narrow Stairs (Which I am now a fan of) and even their older albums but seriously. Pretty much almost the setlist of my dreams.
Plus, Ben Gibbard was note perfect in every song. I swear there was a death cab record just playing in my ears the sound was that good.
Sunday - Soundwave - I’m just going to do the bands I wanted to watch, not the ones I had to wait through.
Black Dahlia Murder - They went off. I got front barricade, right in the middle for these guys and damn did they slay. My only gripe with their setlist was that they didn’t play Miasma… Or any song off Miasma :(. But they played What a Horrible night to have a curse, so I’m happy with that. Plus they only got a half hour set… Which for me is a bit sad since I’ve been a fan of their music for ages.
Ryan Knight played effortlessly and slayed. I have a feeling somewhere in the world Arsis must be missing their guitarist because this bloke is fucking talented.
Gojira - Wow wow wow wow wow. First time in Australia and damn… They were intense. Again I was front barricade, middle for them and they were perfect. They played their ‘hits’ off The Way of All Flesh and From Mars to Sirius (Flying Whales went OFF). So glad to have seen these guys live, no regrets waiting a ridiculous amount of time to see them.
Heaven Shall Burn - They were alright, the sound was a bit muddy and couldn’t hear anything. Maybe because the stage was small, but still I couldn’t hear anything. If I’m gonna give them credit for something, it would be that they give off this aurora of intensity and vibe that no other band I saw gave off. Plus, I saw a wall of death, so that was fun.
Meshuggah - I don’t know how you play that stuff live, but holy crap. This band should honestly have been a main stage one because the amount of people that came to see them was insane. Incredibly talented blokes, playing effortlessly… Probably the tightest band live there. Just amazing.
Trivium - The guitars were too low in the mix… Could barely hear the solos. The crowd even chanted to turn the guitars up, but it didn’t work very well. I would have liked to see more songs off ascendancy and shogun (because personally, those are their best records). Put on a great show for a fan like me who’s been following them for quite a while now.
Marilyn Manson - HAHAHAHAHA oh god this guy was drunk as hell. I got up quite close to the mosh pit, enough to see mOBSCENE and the beautiful people. But I’ve been a fan for ages, and despite the slipknot fans heckling him I enjoyed the show. I can now say I’ve seen Manson live.
System of a down - I swear I couldn’t move or breathe, I was second row from the front barricade and you could not move at all. I was in there for about an hour and 10 mins, so after they played Aerials, I left. But hands down, best band at soundwave. They didn’t need to introduce a song… Everyone knew. We all just knew. I’m still sore from that mosh but it was well worth it. I really have no words to commend their performance, it was just… Perfect.
Monday - Dashboard Confessional, Jack’s Mannequin and Relient K
I’m not going to talk about Jack’s and Relient because I wasn’t there to see them (Although Jack’s were amazing). Dashboard…. Oh my gosh.
If you stalk my posts, I actually met Chris Carrabba just a couple of hours before the show. Got a photo and everything… He’s such a nice humble guy. It pretty much made my day.
His show however… We got HALF the Places you have come to fear the most album. This setlist was pretty much my DREAM setlist (Apart from 1 song, but that’s okay. I’ll be at every subsequent show to hear This Bitter Pill). Best Deceptions, Stolen, Hands Down, The Good Fight, Don’t Wait. Seriously, his voice is amazing, I can’t get over it. The best end to an amazing weekend. I just… I can’t get over it. Meeting him, and him playing every song I loved… It was pretty much magical.

So that was my weekend. I’m still tired because I worked this morning and yesterday. I think I’m going to crash now.
